President's Pen

The lazy, hazy days of summer are here!  We kicked off the summer with a beautiful day on the golf course at Chateau Cartier, Tuesday, June 15th.  The first sunny day in a while was much appreciated by all of us.  The 16th Annual Jill Brown Memorial Golf Tournament raised funds for the Big Brothers-Big Sisters organization AND our WBN universities and college scholarships.  These are two ways the members of the Women’s Business Network give back to their community.  As a best ball tournament, there was lots of collaboration happening – and development with no-fail golf tips for many of us!

All members are encouraged to join a committee.  You can choose a committee where you want to develop new expertise or where you can contribute your specific knowledge to enhance the WBN.  Participating in a committee also offers you a way to build strong connections and friendships within the Network.  The other perk is our summer volunteer thank-you party!  This year we met at my home, with Board members contributing to the feast, and celebrated all our dedicated committee volunteers. There are lots of ‘wins’ when volunteering in this Network!

One of the action items from our strategic planning is a renewed commitment to deliver what our members want.  You will receive mini-surveys over the coming months.  I ask that you take a few minutes to complete those surveys, giving us your opinions so that your Board can respond to that input.  I promise that the surveys will be to the point and that you will see results.

It is your input, suggestions and business acumen that we need:

To be the most sought-after forum where businesswomen of integrity and diverse backgrounds openly connect and are inspired.

Respect - Integrity - Collaboration - Develop

It is with great excitement that I step into the role of President of the Women’s Business Network of Ottawa.  After being over 20 years in the Network, it’s time.  I also want to thank the Executive and committee directors who have agreed to work with me as the WBN Board 2009/2010.  We make a great team!

As all our presidents in the past, I have a vision for the coming year.  My intention is to focus on you - the members, to promote strong connections and to create a community of committed members.

What does this mean?

Commitment – Encouraging every member to be a tuned in, enthusiastic ambassador of the Network by attending meetings regularly, contributing as you are able and promoting the benefits of membership to friends and colleagues.

Connection – Challenging each of us to find ways to interact with one another – using each others services, sharing business stories, contributing to the Board, to events, to members – to the Network.

Community – Through commitment and connection, as we build relationships –we build a community of like-minded women with a shared story – successful business women.

So – I ask you – if you have meaningful relationships within the WBN, why would you not remain connected to those with whom you have laughed, learned and worked with over the years?  This Board’s goal is to make that decision a positive one for the WBN!!

NEWS FLASH!!

The criteria for our membership has changed. There is no longer a 2 year in business requirement. Please check out the new criteria.
